A (rt) message in a (Chianti Classico) bottle

7 three-meter-tall bottles scattered among the Chianti Classico vineyards. A multi-location exhibit
throughout the region, showcasing an equal number of works to be discovered in the Gallo Nero wineries and among the municipalities of the area. The journey begins – search for the bottles as you travel our roads.

Thanks to a collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence initiated in 2025, the artists were selected from among the Academy’s students by a committee composed of the historic Florentine institution, the Consortium, and the curator Francesco Bruni. In particular, the following artists contributed their work: Beatrice Gioè; Kerri Horrell; Petra Longo; Maddalena Lotti; Gemma Manfredini; Polina Priklonskaya; Viola Zagni.

Other projects in the territory

The artist-made bottles are the front-line of a much greater, multi-location contemporary art exhibit showcasing works belonging to important collections displayed by several Chianti Classico wineries.

Castello di Meleto
Località Castello di Meleto, 53013 Gaiole In Chianti SI

The most significant work is the Castle itself: it was built in 1256, expanded in the 1700s, completely restored last century by the Società Viticola Toscana, and is entirely open to the public. The Noble Halls on the ground floor house frescoes and paintings commissioned by the Ricasoli family, the castle owners, that date back to the 1700s and were executed by Ottaviano Dandini, such as the canvas depicting Giovan Francesco Ricasoli, among others. A unique feature of this castle is the small theater built inside it in 1741 and still in use today. The sets and wings are the same as those used at the time, after an appropriate restoration.
