Luigi Ricasoli Firidolfi

Today we continue telling you about the history of the Presidents of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico!
This time we focus on Luigi Ricasoli Firidolfi, who served as President of the Consorzio per la difesa del Vino Tipico del Chianti e della sua Marca di Origine (today known as Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico) in the immediate post-World War II period, from 1947 to 1958.

During a time when Italy was moving toward reconstruction, Firidolfi, as President of the Consortium, worked to best promote the excellence of Chianti Classico, advancing the idea that a wine of such high quality as the Black Rooster wine should command an appropriate price in the market.

In 1954, Luigi Ricasoli Firidolfi spoke as a presenter at the “Economic Viticulture Conference of Chianti,” organized by the Consorzio per la difesa del Vino Tipico del Chianti e della sua Marca di Origine (today Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico) in Radda in Chianti. In his speech, he strongly emphasized the pride shared by Black Rooster producers, whose dedication helps to sustain the history and reputation of one of Europe’s most prestigious wine regions.

Here are his words, still very relevant today:

“I, on the other hand, state that Chianti [Classico] is not a high-quality wine but an extremely high-quality wine, and it is capable, through extreme rigor and using the necessary time, of reclaiming on the market the price it deserves.”
