Giovanni Ricasoli Firidolfi is a key figure in the recent history of Chianti Classico, thanks to his role as President of the Consorzio del Marchio Storico – Chianti Classico from 2003 to 2005. During his tenure, he worked to strengthen the identity and cohesion within the Chianti Classico community, recognizing the Gallo Nero brand as a fundamental symbol, not only for the region but also for the wine-producing community and the Italian wine scene.
In December 2004, Giovanni Ricasoli Firidolfi delivered a significant speech during the Assembly that marked the reunification of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico and the Consorzio del Marchio Storico – Chianti Classico. This historic decision ended a separation that had begun in 1987, following the Ministerial Decree of March 13, 1982, which divided the functions of protection and supervision from those of promotion and enhancement.
His words were a powerful call for unity and the promotion of a symbol that embodies tradition, identity, and future:
“Oltre a rappresentare la storia, l’identità ed un patrimonio del territorio e di noi tutti, il marchio del Gallo Nero costituisce una risorsa di capitale importanza che deve essere messa al centro di ogni nostra strategia di comunicazione.”
This speech not only highlighted the strategic importance of the Gallo Nero brand on a global scale but also reaffirmed the role of Chianti Classico as a cornerstone of Italian culture and winemaking.
