THE FEST PROJECT IS LAUNCHED

The FEST Project (Future of European Sustainable Taste), funded by the European Union, continues to support the presence of the Chianti Classico Denomination of Origin in Europe by focusing on strategic investments, educational activities, and events that bring together tradition and innovation.

New initiatives are strengthening the position of the Chianti Classico denomination in the French market through the promotion of its wines and olive oil.

The Chianti Classico Wine Consortium and the Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil Consortium, guardians of a unique gastronomic and cultural heritage, therefore reaffirm their commitment to promoting quality, sustainability, and local identity in France and throughout Europe.

CHIANTI CLASSICO, A TERRITORY OF EXCELLENCE

With a history spanning several centuries, Chianti Classico represents an undisputed benchmark of Italian gastronomic excellence, and more broadly of European excellence.

Representing 480 producers, the Consortium protects a unique territory where the production of wine and olive oil is inseparably linked to a culture of certified quality and respect for the environment.

Exported to more than 160 countries, Chianti Classico has become one of the most prestigious references in global viticulture. Its geographical boundaries—among the first ever defined in the world—were originally established in 1716 by decree of Grand Duke Cosimo III of Tuscany.

The term “Classico,” added in 1932, distinguishes the original production area from other Chianti wines. The symbol of the Black Rooster (Gallo Nero) represents its values of authenticity, innovation, and diversity—promises that can be found in every glass.

SUSTAINABILITY: ENVIRONMENT, PEOPLE AND CULTURE AT THE CORE

Sustainability has always been an intrinsic characteristic of Chianti Classico. Far from being a recent marketing trend, it represents a deeply rooted approach that combines environmental respect, social responsibility, and economic continuity.

The Consortium is currently developing an innovative sustainability protocol that integrates not only environmental and social practices, but also a pioneering dimension: cultural sustainability.

This approach protects the landscape, heritage, and artisanal knowledge of Chianti Classico—essential elements of its identity.

In line with the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork strategy, the protocol promotes a circular and transparent production model that prioritizes the protection of ecosystems, biodiversity, and the preservation of the region’s emblematic rural landscape.
