Born into a family with a long tradition in wine, from 1974 to 1994 he served as President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, and from 1987 to 1994, he also held the role of President of the Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico. His career was marked by a strong commitment to enhancing the territory and the brand, as well as a continuous pursuit of efficiency and innovation, elements he considered fundamental for the future of the sector.
In complex years for the wine industry, Mazzei was able to promote a strategic vision that made the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico one of the most important organizations in the Italian wine world.
One of the core concepts of his thinking was efficiency, evident, for example, in his famous speech before the General Assembly in May 1985, where Mazzei urged those present to face future challenges with seriousness, competence, a spirit of sharing, and strong planning abilities:
“We must all seek efficiency together, not as an abstract ideological myth, but as the only true guarantee for the survival and consolidation of our businesses, as a safeguard of our entrepreneurial freedoms.”
Mazzei’s commitment to the territory and tradition, balanced by a constant drive for innovation, has over the years served as a model for future generations of winemakers operating in the Chianti Classico region.
