Work promoting and valorizing the "classic" DOP

In 2007 two major events were organized for Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil (Centolio and Banco d’Assaggio) as well as participation in two shows (Anteprima Vini Chianti Classico and Taste) at which tasting booths were set up for free samplings of the oil.

Centolio: A special 100-ml bottle of Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil, created to offer consumers a practical, single-serving container that maintains the flavor and quality of a great oil intact and guarantees its full fragrance at all times.
This year Centolio was the center of informational and educational work addressed to restaurateurs/consumers to make them aware of the “new DOP use mentality.” The guidelines of the message cited knowledgeable use of quality oil at mealtimes and the importance and value of a convenient solution like the one offered by the Centolio bottle (100 milliliters of oil), whose small size guarantees product fragrance and freshness.
The promotion project was carried out in selected restaurants and specialty shops in Florence, Siena and Chianti, as well as in Milan, the Lazio region and even Japan. And the “little bottle with great oil inside” was also promoted on the Cisalpino train, where 100-cc bottles of Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil were featured in the restaurant car on the Florence-Zurich run.

Banco d’Assaggio: Now in its third edition, the Tasting Booth for Italian Extra virgin DOP oil, promoted by the Chianti Classico DOP Consortium and sponsored by the Italian Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policies, again put sector communications in the spotlight.
In fact, a study and a survey commissioned by the Consortium revealed a scarcity of communications about the small but fundamental universe of certified extra virgin production. Little coverage, incomplete information and limited explanations.
Discussing study and survey results were various sector operators and organizations but first and foremost qualified members of the press.
This discussion of communication was the final part of an event whose key moment was the tasting of the various labels sent in by different Italian olive oil consortia. Marco Oreggia, author of the international guidebook to extra virgin olive oil, moderated the tasting panel, which sampled approximately 200 labels, from which were chosen 32 representatives of individual DOPs.

Chianti Classico Collection: During this year’s Chianti Classico Wine Preview again held in February at the Stazione Leopoldo, about 200 trade press journalists from countries throughout the world, along with Italian and foreign wine dealers, were able to taste Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil at a special booth.

Taste: At this well-established premium wine & food event, held this year in March, the Consortium set up a booth for tasting Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil, which could be purchased afterward at the Taste shop.
